koyil
literally ‘abode of the lord/king’; Koil or Kovil or Koyil (Tamil: கோயில்), (meaning: residence of God) is the Tamil term for a distinct style of Hindu temple with Dravidian architecture.
The buildings which constitute the pagoda Ko-il or Koyil (கோயில்) are generally grouped without much order.
Nevertheless the pagoda ought to be oriented, that is to say, the gate of the sanctuary and in general all the gates which lead to the santuary ought to be turned to the east, in such a manner that it often happens that the sun, in rising on certain days in the year, throws its light on the Lingam which is in the santuary.
